PRELUDE

THANKSGIVING FOR BAPTISM*

Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God,

living water, solid rock, and our light. Amen.

We are clothed with God’s mercy and forgiveness.

Water may be poured into the font.

We give you thanks, O God,

You delivered Noah and his family from the flood.

You led your people Israel through the sea of slavery into freedom.

Jesus was baptized by John at the Jordan River with the Spirit.

By water and your Word you claim us as daughters and sons.

We praise you for the gift of Living Water.

Amen.

GATHERING SONG*                        ELW  669

GREETING*

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,

and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

And also with you.

CANTICLE OF PRAISE*                     ELWsetting 8

Refrain: Kyrie eleison, on our world and on our way,

Kyrie eleison, ev’ry day.

For peace in the world, for the health of the church, for the unity of all;

for this holy house, for all who worship and praise,

let us pray to the Lord, let us pray to the Lord Refrain

That we may live out your impassioned response to the hungry and the poor;

that we may live out truth and justice and grace,

let us pray to the Lord, let us pray to the Lord Refrain

For peace in our hearts, for peace in our homes, for friends and family;

for life and for love, for our work and our play,

let us pray to the Lord, let us pray to the Lord Refrain

For your Spirit to guide; that you center our lives in the water and the Word;

that you nourish our souls with your body and blood,

let us pray to the Lord, let us pray to the Lord Refrain

PRAYER OF THE DAY*

God of compassion, you send us out like sheep into the midst of wolves; so make us wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

Amen.

WORD

CHILDREN’S SERMON

FIRST READING Exodus 19:2-8a

See back page for reading

Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God.

PSALM  100

 1Make a joyful noise to the Lord, | all you lands!

  2Serve the Lord with gladness; come into God’s presence | with a song.

 3Know that the Lord is God, our maker to whom | we belong;

  we are God’s people and the sheep | of God’s pasture. R

 4Enter the gates of the Lord with thanksgiving and the | courts with praise;

  give thanks and bless God’s | holy name.

 5Good indeed is the Lord, whose steadfast love is | everlasting,

  whose faithfulness endures from | age to age. R

SECOND READING: Romans 5:1-8

1Since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

 6For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. 8But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.

Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION*

HOLY GOSPEL according to  Matthew 9:35—10:8 [9-23]

Glory to you Oh Lord.

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Oh Christ.

SERMON                                                                    Pastor Wesley

HYMN OF DAY                                         ELW 623

APOSTLE’S CREED Assisting Minister or Lector

With the whole church, let us confess our faith.

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended into hell.

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS*       Assisting Minister or Lector

Trusting in God, let us offer our prayers for a world in need.

An offering is gathered for the mission of the church, including the care of those in need. During this time, the table is set.

OFFERING HYMN

OFFERING PRAYER*

God of field and forest, sea and sky, you are the giver of all good things. Sustain us with these gifts of your creation. Amen.

GREAT THANKSGIVING

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is indeed right, our duty and our joy,

that we should at all times and in all places

give thanks and praise to you,

through our Savior Jesus Christ;

who opened to us the way of everlasting life.

And so, with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven,

we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY

????Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of pow’r and might,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory, full of your glory.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

THANKSGIVING AT THE TABLE

LORD’S PRAYER*

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
