Hello Grace Lutheran Church families, This year as we enter the season of advent, we will be reading through an advent devotional titled God With Us written by Katie Pawlak. This book is designed to be used as a family devotional. A story theme, Bible verses, reading, prayer, and extension activities are provided for the twenty-five days in December leading up to, and including, Christmas day. Opening the Bible together is a powerful activity for families. You can choose to read only the scripture, devotional reading, and prayer. You may also decide to complete an extension activity or two to further engage with each day’s story theme. Three “Branching Out” activities or questions are provided for each story theme, ranging in both complexity and depth. You know your family best and are invited to select activities that match the developmental stages and interests of your family. The most important activity related to this book is coming together as a family and focusing your collective attention on God, and the gift of the Son, in the days leading up to Christmas. I pray this time becomes a treasured tradition in your family. To the youth and children at Grace Lutheran Church, Hopefully you were able to receive the wooden ornaments provided by the church to each family (if not, please contact Sheri). It is our hope that the daily verses and readings can be extended and personalized by having the children decorate the ornaments to reflect the theme of the day’s devotion. Feel free to post a picture of your family’s completed ornament on the facebook stream.
In Him,
Roberta Morton
