PRELUDE

THANKSGIVING FOR BAPTISM*

Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God,

living water, solid rock, and our light. Amen.

We are clothed with God’s mercy and forgiveness.

Water may be poured into the font.

We give you thanks, O God, your Spirit moved over the waters.

You delivered Noah and his family from the flood.

You led your people Israel through the sea of slavery into freedom.

Jesus was baptized by John at the Jordan River with the Spirit.

By water and your Word you claim us as daughters and sons.

We praise you for the gift of Living Water.

Amen.

Gathering Song       O Holy Spirit, Root of Life     ELW 399

1   O Holy Spirit, root of life,

creator, cleanser of all things:

anoint our wounds, awaken us

with lustrous movement of your wings.

2   Eternal vigor, Saving One,

you free us by your living Word,

becoming flesh to wear our pain,

and all creation is restored.

3   O holy Wisdom, soaring pow’r,

encompass us with wings unfurled,

and carry us, encircling all

above, below, and through the world.

GREETING*

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,

and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

And also with you.

CANTICLE OF PRAISE*                                     ELW setting 8

????This is the feast of vict’ry for our God,

for the Lamb who was slain has begun his reign. Alleluia.

Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain,

whose blood set us free to be people of God.

Power, riches, wisdom, and strength,

and honor, blessing, and glory are his.

This is the feast of vict’ry for our God,

for the Lamb who was slain has begun his reign. Alleluia.

Sing with all the people of God,

and join in the hymn of all creation:

Blessing, honor, glory and might

be to God and the Lamb forever. Amen.

This is the feast of vict’ry for our God,

for the Lamb who was slain has begun his reign. Alleluia.

PRAYER OF THE DAY*

O God, on this day you open the hearts of your faithful people by sending into us your Holy Spirit. Direct us by the light of that Spirit, that we may have a right judgment in all things and rejoice at all times in your peace, through Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Amen.

WORD

CHILDREN’S SERMON

FIRST READING                                            ACTS 2:1-21
See back page for reading

Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God.

PSALM  104:24-34, 35b

  24How manifold are your | works, O Lord!

  In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full | of your creatures.

 25Yonder is the sea, great and wide, with its swarms too man- | y to number,

  living things both | small and great.

 26There go the ships | to and fro,

  and Leviathan, which you made for the | sport of it.

 27All of them | look to you

  to give them their food | in due season. R

 28You give it to them; they | gather it;

  you open your hand, and they are filled | with good things.

 29When you hide your face, | they are terrified;

  when you take away their breath, they die and return | to their dust.

 30You send forth your Spirit, and they | are created;

  and so you renew the face | of the earth.

 31May the glory of the Lord en- | dure forever;

  O Lord, rejoice in | all your works. R

 32You look at the earth | and it trembles;

  you touch the mountains | and they smoke.

 33I will sing to the Lord as long | as I live;

  I will praise my God while I | have my being.

 34May these words of | mine please God.

  I will rejoice | in the Lord.

 35bBless the Lord, | O my soul.

  Hal- | lelujah! R

SECOND READING:   1 Corinthians 12:3b-13

3bNo one can say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit.

 4Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; 6and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. 7To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.

 12For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God.

HYMN OF DAY    O Living Breath of God      ELW 407

APOSTLE’S CREED

With the whole church, let us confess our faith.

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended into hell.

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS*                          Assisting Minister or Lector

 A brief silence.

Passionate God, equip us to bring the good news to all those who long for you, especially the homeless. Hear us, O God.

Your mercy is great.

We pray for those who work with wind energy, for migratory birds, for protection for lands facing destructive fire, for forestry managers and firefighters. Renew the face of the earth. Hear us, O God.

Your mercy is great.

Ever-present God, your spirit embraces all. Send your spirit of understanding to immigrants, refugees, and any experiencing language barriers. Bless the work of translators, ESL teachers, ambassadors, and international peace organizations. Safely guide those fleeing war and danger. Hear us, O God.

Your mercy is great.

TESTIMONY                                                            Charles Menke

OFFERING

An offering is gathered for the mission of the church, including the care of those in need. During this time, the table is setOFFERING HYMN                            “Build A Longer Table”              ACS 1062

Build a long table, not a higher wall

Feeding those who hunger, making room for all

Feasting together, stranger turns to friend

Christ breaks walls to pieces, false divisions end.

Build a broader doorway, not a longer fence

Love protects all people, sparing no expense

When we embrace compassion more than fear

Christ tears down our fences, all are welcome here.

OFFERING PRAYER*

Generous God, thank you for these gifts of the Earth. Send us out as stewards of the Earth; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

GREAT THANKSGIVING*

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is indeed right that we should at all times give thanks to you, for the glorious resurrection of Jesus. We praise your name with Mary Magdalene, Peter, with Earth and Sea and all creatures, with angels and archangels, we join the unending hymn:

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY*

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of pow’r and might,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory, full of your glory.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

THANKSGIVING AT THE TABLE*

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth

as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

COMMUNION

We pray that through faithfulness we become the body of Jesus.

LAMB OF GOD                                                        ELW setting 8

????Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world;

have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world;

have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world;

grant us peace, grant us peace, Lamb of God.

COMMUNION SONG     Spirit of Gentleness          ELW 396

Refrain

     Spirit, Spirit of gentleness,

     blow through the wilderness calling and free;

     Spirit, Spirit of restlessness,

     stir me from placidness, wind, wind on the sea.

1   You moved on the waters, you called to the deep,

     then you coaxed up the mountains from the valleys of sleep;

     and over the eons you called to each thing:

     “Awake from your slumbers and rise on your wings.”  Refrain

2   You swept through the desert, you stung with the sand,

     and you goaded your people with a law and a land;

     and when they were blinded with idols and lies,

     then you spoke through your prophets to open their eyes.  Refrain

3   You sang in a stable, you cried from a hill,

     then you whispered in silence when the whole world was still;

     and down in the city you called once again,

     when you blew through your people on the rush of the wind.  Refrain

4   You call from tomorrow, you break ancient schemes.

     From the bondage of sorrow all the captives dream dreams;

        our women see visions, our men clear their eyes.

     With bold new decisions your people arise.  Refrain

PRAYER

Gracious God, you have nourished our life together. Strengthen us to show your love and serve the world in Jesus’ name. Amen.
